As for student resources, two of my favorites are Khan Academy Kids and Teach Your Monster to Read. Khan Academy is a great free resource that can be downloaded on a tablet or iPad or accessed on a computer from the website. This educational game has math, reading, phonics, and logic. It also has teacher resources like printables. It is interactive, easily accessible, and user-friendly. This following resource is also free and one of my student's favorite interactive games. Teach Your Monster to Read is a phenomenal app specifically for beginner readers. It teaches letter recognition, phoneme segmentation, and fluency in reading. Teach Your Monster has also branched out to other learning platforms such as math, reading for pleasure, and eating. Both these resources show student data and are easy to track and understand from a teacher's perspective.

Two of my favorite resources to use that I highly recommend from a teacher standpoint are Remind and DonorsChoose. Remind is a great communication tool to use. It can be downloaded as an app to phone s parents, and you have easier access to communicate. I do not check my emails constantly, and many of my parents do not check theirs either. This platform helps with announcements, reminders, quick questions, or to provide important information last minute and easily. The other resource is excellent support for our classroom. It is a nonprofit where donations can be made to fund field trips, professional development, and materials for our classroom. Some donors match donations, and they have certain months when foundations fully fund projects. Teaching in low-income schools, DonorsChoose has been a significant and helpful resource. Both of these resources are free, which is another win for us teachers. |
